Rebirth begins with Jake, a dedicated police officer, traveling to Bangkok with his wife Prang and their daughter Loo to visit Prang’s mother. What seems to be a routine family trip quickly turns dark when a demonic force breaches into the human world, unleashing chaos. Ordinary citizens start becoming possessed, acting violently and unpredictably. Jake and his family are torn apart in the confusion, and the city descends into an apocalyptic nightmare.
Prang and Loo find themselves trapped in a hotel while the streets grow more dangerous by the minute. Meanwhile, Jake becomes the target of a supernatural threat led by Mek, a malevolent presence. At one point, Mek merges with Jake’s body, using his form to terrorize Prang and Loo. The merging intensifies the tension as Prang struggles to believe the person before her is truly her husband or a disguised intruder.
Desperate to rescue his family and end the terror, Jake enlists the help of Chan, a spiritual guide. Through Chan’s intervention, Jake is able to reanimate himself by inhabiting another person’s body temporarily, enabling him to continue his fight against Mek. The process isn’t without cost, and conflict erupts as Jake confronts Mek in brutal combat to separate their souls.
Guided by clues left by Mek, Jake and Chan learn that the gates of Hell are about to fully open. Loo’s blood becomes a critical element in the ritual intended to complete that opening. Wichien, a figure behind the dark designs, also threatens the lives of Prang and Loo. In a moment of heroic sacrifice, Prang shoots Wichien to protect her daughter even at great personal risk.
In the climactic scene, Jake confronts Mek in the infernal realm known as The Hindrance. To prevent the gates from opening and to save his family, Jake allows himself to cross into the portal, sealing the barrier between worlds. The final act demands total commitment—Jake sacrifices his own presence in the earthly plane. With Mek defeated and the gates sealed, peace returns to Bangkok—though the film ends on an ominous note, hinting that darkness may one day reemerge.
Overall, Rebirth weaves together horror, supernatural elements, and intense family drama. Its strength lies in the personal stakes—Jake’s determination to protect his loved ones against overwhelming supernatural forces. Though elements of the narrative draw on familiar horror tropes, the film’s blending of spiritual mythology and emotional sacrifice gives it weight.
